Gha-ya-na, Guyana, Ghana

I too am from Guiana, Guinea, Canada or whatever sounds closest.
And by the way, I swam to the US since we don't have airplanes where I come from. Plus we live in trees and the US and English consulate live on the tallest trees.

A co-worker once asked me where I was from? I sais "GHANA" and a temp who was working with us said gleefully
"Oh, my Dad built a hospital in Haiti and he likes Guyana a lot"
All i said was "Oh WOW"

I say from now on when people dont get it, dont bother explaining.. string 'em along

Hi Faf, My suggestion is to educate. Unforunately, it seems African history and geography were not the high points of learning in America and apparently not in the UK as well. Who's to blame for this ignorance is not the point. It exists. My opinion is not to "string 'em along", but to enlighten people. I have, and all are interested to learn. One source of blame is the media, many times having only "bad news" of Africa (in general) to share. "A journey begins with one step". One person can educate many without even realizing it. Share the beauty,history and culture of Ghana.Most people will listen,with interest, and may even be grateful to be brought out of their ignorance. Anyway...that's been my experience, and that's my thought for the day...Will watch for responses, and other opinions or experiences...Love your site Faf, no " ". :)

what u're saying, eme, is the rational thing to do. but i happen to like Guyana too. So maybe i can be an honorary citizen for a while. So for now... sorry they gotta live in thier ignorance :)

Had that experience this weekend. Went to stay with a friend's family for Thanksgiving. The pop kept saying Ganda, Uganda or something of that sort. Had to take out a map and a globe to show him where Ghana was. I almost got of talking about the motherland.
