La Peter Lor...

Continuing my poems/songs from the past themed entries...

I dunno about other countries, but Ghanaians have a knack for changing the lyrics to a song or "fixing" words to a poem to make it local. Most of my readers wouldnt understand the modified version anyway.. and even those that can read whatever local language the butchery has been done in might not get the funny side unless they've sung/said it themselves.

Here's one that sprung to mind a few minutes ago and triggered this post. Before you try to make sense of it... well dont. It's in no specific language and is unintelligigi... ble. Yeah it's uninteniglibgible. Wait, i know.. untelivigible. One last one.. unintevegetable. [Takes a deep breath]. Un-in-tell-igi-ble. Yayyyy!!

Anyway.. here we go:

La Peter lor, Peter lor, Peter lor.
Peter sangra boochi muti, abokyi...
Mambrobi alor.
Alor!!
(Repeat ad nauseam)

Now i know the real play-song starts with "Run Peter run, Peter run, Peter run..." but that's all i know. What happens is that after being bucthered for so long, people seem to forget the real song.

You should've seen my amazement the first time i heard the real words. I was about 13 then and even tho i knew those couldnt be the exact words to the song, it never occured to me that the original was English.

If any Ghanaians are reading this and can think of any more buthered songs where the original has been banished to obscurity [at least in Ghana]... lemme know.

Better Late Than Never

I've spent the whole of yesterday playing Halo. My mum's gone to Ghana and my sis actually worked on Christmas day (she's a nurse).

i ignored everyone else in the world. Great stuff. For those of you that care, Merry Xmas. If you couldnt give a shit like me about Xmas... then sorry i mentioned it. Ha.
